Ciao ragazzi,

con oggi inizia la nuova miniserie che ci avvicinerà al lancio del libro qui a New York. Intitolata IL MIO ULTIMO ANNO A NEW YORK- i luoghi, raccoglie alcune delle location più importanti per il libro.

Non potevo lasciarvi cosi’ dopo tante settimane passate a raccontare un pezzettino della storia sotto forma di mini-pillole e cosi, pensa e ripensa, mi e’ venuta questa idea. Immagino già qualcuno/qualcuna di voi che arriva a New York con la lista dei luoghi e, mano a mano, li visita e si immedesima nei personaggi.

Si inizia con Bryant Park.

Dovete sapere che a Bryant Park, non appena la stagione e’ buona, ci si ritrova a fare pausa pranzo in uno dei tantissimi tavolini verdi sparsi intorno al parco. Immersi nei fiori, sotto l’ombra degli alberi che nascondono a tratti i famossisimi grattacieli che popolano il parco lungo il suo perimetro – Grace Building, New York Public Library, Bryant Park Hotel su tutti.  E cosi ogni giorno, tra le 12 e le 14, una marea umana fatta di professionisti vestiti a puntino (molte aziende di moda hanno sede in zona) scendono dai loro palazzi e,  sacchettino alla mano, si dirigono verso il parco. Da soli o in compagnia. Alcuni ascoltano musica mentre mangiano, altri parlano con i colleghi. Altri ancora osservano i passanti.

E allora immaginatevi la nostra Anna ciacolare con Ms. C.

Che cosa si diranno? Che cosa confabuleranno? Ma soprattutto: chi e’ questa Ms. C?

today marks the start of a new column which will help us getting closer to the publication of the book here in New York. By the title  MY LAST YEAR IN NEW YORK – the places, it contains a collection of 13 places significant to the book. 

I couldn’t leave you like that, after so many weeks spent reading the mini-stories. So I started thinking and thinking and I came up with this idea. I can already see may of you running around the city with the map of the places this column will be touching, and identify yourselves with the characters of the book.

Let’s start with Bryant Park.

You see, Bryant Park is the place where literally everyone who works  in the Midtown area in Manhattan ends up having lunch at. As soon as the weather is nice, you will find people seated in one of the many green tables and chairs, immersed in flowers, right below the trees’ shadows partially hiding the marvellous skyscrapers located around the park – Grace Building, New York Public Library, Bryant Park Hotel among them.

Every day, between 12PM and 2PM, a human wave of professionals discintively dressed (many fashion companies have headquarters in the area) take the elevator down and head to the park, their lunch in one hand, their mobile in the other. Alone or with company. Some listen to the music while they eat. Others chat with their colleagues. And then there are the ones who simply enjoy people watching.

Try to imagine our Anna chit-chatting with Ms. C.

What are they talking about? What secret are they sharing? And most importantly: who is this Ms. C?
