Che cosa ho imparato da questo viaggio? Che i norvegesi sono un popolo caldo, affabile. Che adorano i dolci. Il cioccolato in particolare (beh, qui devo dire che c’e’ una connessione immediata con me, vista la mia chocolate addiction). E poi non si lamentano. Sono molto pratici. Sono diretti. Anzi, sono diretti da far paura. Parlano tutti l’inglese perfettamente. Non importa l’eta, dai bimbi agli anziani, tutti lo parlano molto bene. Mi hanno spiegato che da loro non esiste il doppiaggio. Sono abituati fin da piccoli ad ascoltare la lingua inglese e a parlarla. Sono molto fieri della loro nazione, delle loro origini. Ho parlato con persone diversissime, dal tassista che ci ha accompagnato in giro ad Oslo, agli abitanti di Stavanger e tutti hanno una cosa in comune: sono fieri di essere norvegesi. Dicono che la qualità di vita qui e’ ottima. Educazione e sanità sono free, gratuiti. Tutti pagano le tasse. E ne vanno fieri. I servizi funzionano.

E poi ci sono i colori. Sono sempre loro a stupirmi in ogni paese, in ogni città che visito. Sono stata fortunatissima, il sole mi ha accompagnata quasi ogni giorni. E cosi’ il blu, il verde, il bianco delle nuvole, della luce.

Ed il cibo. Ho mangiato pesce praticamente ogni giorno, e per una fishetarian come me, e’ il paradiso. Le zuppe di pesce, in particolare, sono state l’highlight della vacanza, dal punto di vista culinario. A Stavanger c’e’ un posticino che si chiama Fisketorget: credo di aver mangiato proprio qui la zuppa di pesce più buona di sempre – foto sotto.

Stavanger e’ conosciuta come la città del petrolio della Norvegia, credo che non ci sia bisogno di spiegare perché. La parte più carina della città e’ quella vecchia, fatta di 173 cottage bianchi della fine del 1700. Le case sono curatissime, con tanti dettagli colorati – le porte gialle e blu, i fiori gialli, ciclamino e rossi, e poi le cassette della posta, le panchine davanti casa. Sembra di essere nel paese delle favole.

 What have I learned from this trip? That Norwegians are warm and gentle. That they love sweets. Chocolate in particular (well, that’s an easy one given my addiction to chocolate). And they don’t complain. They are very practical. Very direct. Brutally direct. They all speak perfect English. Regardless the age, from kids to elderly, everyone speaks a very good English. They explained to me that there is no voice over here in Norway.  They are used to listen to the English sound since when they are very little. They are also very proud of their nation, their origins. I spoke with several people, from our taxi driver  in Oslo to the inhabitants of Stavanger and they all have one thing in common: they are proud to be Norwegian. They all say that the quality of life here is pretty good. Education and health care are free. Everyone pays taxes. And they affirm this proudly. Like it should be. Services work.

And then there are the colors. These are ultimately what leave me speechless each time I visit a new country, a new city. I was very lucky, that the sun accompanied me pretty much every day of this trip. The blues, the greens, the whites in the clouds, in the light.

And the food. I ate fish every day. For a fishetarian like me, it has been a dream.  Fish soups especially, have been the highlight of this trip, from a culinary point of view. Stavanger has just the perfect place for this: Fishetorget, this is where I believe I ate the best fish soup I have ever had. Pics below.

Stavanger is known as the “oil city” of Norway. I don’t think I need to explain why. The most picturesque area in town in Old City, which comprehends 173 white cottages from the turn of the 18th century. The little houses are curated in each and every detail, and have touches of bright colors – yellow and blue doors, yellow, red and fucsia flowers, the mailboxes and the benches in front of each home. It feels like being in a fairy tail.
