Siete pronti a fare un giretto con me al mercato di Union Square?
Ogni mercoledi’, venerdi’ e sabato nella piazza a nord della 14ma Strada si ritrovano venditori di frutta, verdura, fiori, piante e altro, che noi newyorchesi adoriamo. Sono la nostra fonte di prodotti organici a chilometro (quasi) zero. Non male per una citta’ come New York. La maggior parte viene infatti da Upstate New York, l’area a nord dello stato di New York.
Io qui compro frutta e verdura e -molto spesso- anche i fiori, che come sapete adoro. Non saprei vivere senza fiori dentro casa, mi rendono davvero felice. Melissa del vivaio “The River Garden” e’ la mia fioraia di fiducia. Mi spiega sempre la storia di tutti i fiori e come trattarli (da leggersi: come farli sopravvivere ha ha ha).

2) i “guanti di volte – fox gloves”, meglio conosciuti in italiano come “digitali”
Come spieghera’ Melissa, la leggenda vuole che le fate dormano dentro i “digitali” e la prova sono le macchioline nere dentro alle campanelle… una romantica come me non poteva non parlarvene!

Are you ready for a little tour of Union Square’s farmers market?
Every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, on the square located north of 14th Street many vendors meet to sell fruits, veggies, flowers, plants and much more to adoring New Yorkers. They are our source of fresh, organic products. Not bad for a big city as NYC. Most of them come from Upstate New York, the area north of New York State.
I buy fruits and veggies here and, very often, I get flowers too. As you know, I can not live my life without flowers. They make me very happy. Melissa, a flower expert of “The River Garden Farm” is my go-to-person at the market. She always tells me interesting stories about the flowers I choose, as well as how to treat them (read this: how to make them survive LOL).

As Melissa will explain, legend says fairies sleep inside this flowers and leave tiny little foot prints – the dark spots inside them… a romantic like me could not ignore such a lovely story!
